anything I am forgetting here? Going to take my own nappies and wipes. Is there any one baby product you couldn't get in europe?

Wouldn't bother with wipes. They are easily available. Nappies too although they are expensive. I usually bring enough for a few days then buy while I'm there. Remember to allow for travel delays in the airport so pack more than needed in change bag.

Formula? I breastfeed but is it good to change formula brand? Sterilising tablets. Kettle in room?

Can hire most things. Travel cot, car seat.

Can buy cheap toys when there.

Here are so many variables depending on age of baby and where you are staying.

Good call on the change bag - I defo wouldn't have thought of this!!!

She will be 2. First trip abroad though as I've been too nervous before and over thought it all so much that I talked myself out of it!

I will try the toys abroad too, they'll be different and hopefully more interesting to her.

I am going to take all wipes and nappies though,it's all inclusive so I really don't want to have to shop

A potty. IME all children decide to potty train when they are on holiday.

I did manage to buy a lovely Jane potty in Lanzarote one year (nice and high, stable base) but even with fairly fluent Spanish I struggled to explain what a potty was when trying to buy one.

We are just home from two weeks in Spain with our dd2 and dd 15 weeks. We had a self catering apartment.

I bought a few new toys and books for the plane.

Apps on a tablet

Packed toddler cutlery as dd2 can be dangerous with adult sets.

Toddler cup. Saves mess if only glasses are available in hotel.

Medication. Needed to buy piriton as dd2 had an reaction to sun/suncream.

Formula if bottle feeding as the brands will be different. And bottle cleaning stuff (like a brush and sterilising tablets) as they can be hard to find. Sippy cup if DC has one. Other than that then only take enough for the first 24 hours and buy when you get there to avoid rinsing the baggage allowance as nappies take up so much bloody space. And I second the advice to overpack the changing bag for the flight in case of delays. Happy holidays!!

Not so much things you can't get as things you don't want to have to buy there:

  • Monitor (so you can sunbathe outside the room while she naps)
  • Travel black out blind (or a blanket + tape)
  • Calpol (I bought some equivalent in france but the dosing was totally different and I found it hard to work out). Ditto teething stuff
  • some kind of shade for the buggy, if you're taking it
  • Plastic plate/bowl and child cutlery as the restaurant won't supply them unless you're going somewhere super child friendly. Water cup
  • Galt water colouring book (can't remember its proper name) - best thing to keep toddler amused in restaurants
  • Child safe mozzie repellent (non deet), depending on location/season

Oh and may be obvious but take a mini first aid kit - plasters, thermometer, calpol, bonjela, savlon etc

Thank you everyone. Some excellent suggestions here, really appreciate it 😊

LIZS · 30/04/2018 12:02

Calpol and nurofen. Most otc child medicines are in suppository form.

babasaclover · 01/05/2018 12:48

Omg Lizs how awful!!!

LIZS · 01/05/2018 12:52

Really? Useful if they are being sick or refuse medicines.

babasaclover · 01/05/2018 17:12

Don't think my daughter would like it!
