Week in the sun

Thinking of taking DH away for a week as we both need a break. Haven’t flown for over 20 years (normally U.K. hols or drive to France).

Anyway I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a week somewhere in early June, and what board basis would you recommend?

Would like somewhere on the quiet side with lots of lovely restaurants/bars if we didn’t go all inclusive. We’re both in our 50s.

We would be flying from Manchester. And also what would I be expecting to pay?

A lot of questions I know but I’ve looked on a some travel websites and that just got my head spinning lol.

Would appreciate any help/advice. Thank you 😊

I love Rhodes, we like to book an apartment in pefkos or Lindos half board or B.B. It will be gorgeous in June.
If you want a shorter flight Murcia in Spain has some fantastic resorts and should be lovely weather wise, maybe a cardigan needed in the evening.

If you like Spain, the Costa de la Luz has gorgeous sandy beaches and quite undiscovered by British tourists. We love La Barrosa - 8km of beach to wander along, mostly backed by dunes. It just goes on and on! Many tapas bars to choose from as well as restaurants offering other cuisines.

Do you want heat or the probability of nice sunny weather? If I had a week away with my DH, there are 3 places I’d love to return to. SW France, the Bassin D’Arcachon , where there’s a lovely hotel called the Hotel du Bassin. Sandy, dunes, pine trees, cute (expensive!) wooden houses, lovely fish restaurants. The Hotel is totally charming and I imagine would be peaceful in June. I partic remember delicious breakfast out on a terrace and drinking cocktails in the hotel’s gorgeous semi-outdoors bar. Cycling is a great way of getting around. Fly to Bordeaux and get a taxi to Cap Ferret. Arcachon looked like a lovely chic seaside resort. OR, further north on the Ile de Re, the Hotel Senechal in Ars en Re is equally beautiful. Again, cycling is by far the best way to get around and is really safe and fun (it’s pretty flat and cycle paths lead everywhere) .. plenty of gorgeous villages, fab restaurants, wildlife, nice shops. It’d be bearable in June (rammed with well to do Parisians in the height of summer). My final nice Hotel is on the Greek island of Hydra. Hotel Bratsera .. lovely, laid back grown up place, with nice pool and lovely outside space. The island is traffic free and rocky, with some lovely restaurants to walk or swim to. It’s a v short hop from Athens on the fast boats. V pretty port to sit and watch the world.

If you like Spain you could fly into Almeria or Alicante and head for the Mojacar area. Lots of restaurants, bars, great beaches, low rise hotels and apartments/villas to suit all budgets but not too touristy. I'm not sure its offered by many tour operators but easy enough to sort yourself.
We are a similar age and spend long periods in this area. We self cater in an apartment on a golf resort a few miles inland but eat out regularly as there is lots of choice.
Weather will be pretty warm in June. 25 degrees yesterday.Smile
