London travel advice

Hi

It has been ages since I have travelled to London but I have surprised my son with Sam Smith tickets next week.

Can I have some advice on the cheapest way to travel as the fares are really confusing me 😁

We will be travelling Euston to Canary Wharf to hotel then Canary Wharf to O2 Arena to the concert a few hours later. The
Following day we will be doing the return journey. It will be myself and my 16yr old son who I gather is adult fare.

I would be grateful for any help. We can use apple pay or oyster or add onto train tickets if it will provide any discount.

Many Thanks

Xxx

the easiest way is to use a contactless credit/debit card - touch on a bus (flat fare), use it to open the gates on and off the tube and touch on and off DLR. It is as cheap as using an oyster card and should cap your fare if reach the day travel card price. you would need a card each however.

i am not from london, so not an expert, but if your son is school-age, you can possibly get a tourist oyster card for him and then get it set up for a child (you have to do this in person, i read about it recently). for a short trip it may not be worth the effort though, when you can use a normal credit/debit card.

Thanks very much. That makes sense. I will get him to use Apple pay which is linked to my credit card and I will use my debit card. I didn't realise it was capped daily so that is great to know.
