Resorts near airports - Canary Islands

Nic165 · 05/04/2018 18:59

Researching for a week's holiday in the Canary Islands in late May, not fussy which island in particular. However we are travelling with a 3 yr old so would like a suitable beach resort as close as possible to the airport.

I've never been to the Canaries before so looking for recommendations please 😊

Lanzarote-Puerto del Carmen (Matagorda end)

Lanzarote - we were in costa Teguise and had maybe a 10 minute transfer?

Caleta de fuste in fuerteventura is a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport. Took mine there when he was 3, it's great for young kids, lots of little play parks, lovely beach and family friendly restaurants.

Los Cristianos, Tenerife. 30 minute transfer. Lovely beach (round the corner from the port. Spent the first day sitting looking at the port, wondering why anyone would go there from choice. Next day found the lovely beach nearby!)

Smellylittleorange · 05/04/2018 19:11

Los Pocillos Lanzarote is right near airport, Caleta de Fuste better for kids.

Fuerteventura - Caleta de Fuste ten mins from the airport by cab - nice quiet family resort

Kbear · 05/04/2018 19:16

er, I missed the earlier mention ! lol

Playa Blanca Lanzarote an hour max from airport and fantastic family resort

Caleta in fuerteventura as mentioned , 10 mins from airport but I think less good resort than Playa Blanca

Puerto de Mogan Gran Canaria 45 mins from airport, very lovely, but would again pick PB as more too so, bigger resort

So obviously I think Playa Blanca!!

Have been to Playa jandia / morro Jable and corralejo also but would prefer any of the others and these are bit further from airport

Think you'll have vg weather in Mallorca at that time of year, could consider near pollenca/ Puerto pollenca, less than an hour from airport and really lovely

I'm in los christianos in Tenerife now and it's lovely - gorgeous weather, great restaurants, pretty sandy beaches and 20 mins and 25 euros from the airport in s cab!

If you decide on Playa Blanca, Lanzarote then the Princess Yaiza is great for children.

AnyFucker · 05/04/2018 22:39

Playa Blanca is 35-40 minutes from the airport

I second Matagorda in Lanzarote.Transfers are less than five minutes from the airport. You can walk the promenade down to the edge of the runway to see the planes coming in and taking off.In the resort hotels the aircraft noise isn't bad at all though. Its got a nice beach and a little park for kids. There's maybe 12-15 restaurants and bars in a square there.Puerto del Carmen is five minutes away in a taxi if you want more choices or better nightlife .I much prefer Matagorda as pdc in my opinion is too crowded and tacky.

tierraJ · 06/04/2018 19:27

Matagorda is lovely with nice beaches & affordable restaurants I've stayed there 3 times!

Just seen that you are going in May. Canaries can be v hot then. Yy to the previous poster who suggested Puerto Pollensa in Mallorca for May. Lovely time to be there.

Someaddedsugar · 07/04/2018 12:46

The H10 Rubicon Palace in Playa Blanca is amazing for children. So much for them to do at the hotel resort and further afield!

pieceofpurplesky · 07/04/2018 12:49

I would also say Fuerteventura Caleta de Fuste. Great place for kids. My DS loved the aeroplanes flying over too (they don't really bother you as not that frequent). Really good play area on the beach and lovely walk to the manmade beach coves

I’ve just booked the Elba royal villages for first week of May with a 2 year old. Other contenders were the Occidental also in Playa Blanca or Zafiro in mallorca but was worried water temperature would still be quite chilly in Mallorca.

IFA interclub Atlantic in San Agustin in Gran Canaria is 20 mins from the airport. On a hill (but very child friendly resort / toddler pool with slide) and only €6 one way in a taxi to get to Playa Del Ingles resort beach. Taxis all the time outside hotel. Drop off at beach (shops and restaurants) and beach is clean and golden. Taxi rank where you get dropped off and taxis available all the time. We found it easy and more manageable with towels, buggy etc.

I stayed at the IAAF inter club augustin @bangingmyheadoffabrickwall it was OK I like somewhere to be able to walk around at night and couldn't there without a taxi. Great pools though
