Any less usual ideas? We've been to Barcelona, Rome and Paris. DH travels to Amsterdam for work so even though i've never been, i doubt we'd go there at the moment. Don't want a super expensive one like New York (super expensive because i'd blow the bank account shopping...).

Palma - loved it.

Killarney.

The flower festival takes place in Madeira quite soon. It's quite do-able, flight is just under 4 hrs, there's no time difference. I take the Friday afternoon one and am there (at the Royal Savoy of course) for dinner, then take a Monday am flight back.
Funchal has wonderful dining, is lovely to wander around, the scenery is spectacular. Beautiful place.
(Portuguese embassy - I'll email you re my commission).

Riga is nice, especially if you are interested in Art Nouveau.
Krakow.
Depends what you are interested in, really. I can never get enough of Florence.
Agree with pp re Berlin.

I've always wanted to go to Bruges after seeing that Colin Farrell film.

Onedaylikethi5 · 05/04/2018 06:39

Ljubljana is gorgeous, lots to see there.
Tirana is great value for money, very interesting place.
Nice, you can hop over to Monte Carlo and Italy.
Berlin is always brilliant, there's loads of brilliant museums, shops and food.
Dubrovnik?
Brussels?

Another vote for Budapest: cheap flights, decent restaurants at a fraction of the price of most big cities, novel "ruin" pubs to explore, outdoor spas and amazing massages...

And that's all without mentioning the lovely city to see and the busy market (although don't eat there - the most expensive hotdog I've ever had!)

Ooh Nice and Monte Carlo hit the jack pot for me! Florence also sounds good. O don't know a lot about many others. I like beautiful architecture, walking and better weather than the UK which isn't too hard.

Monte Carlo ( or any of the other towns/ villages between them) is better than Nice for a short break. Ideal as the train goes all the way up to Italy as someone said. Two city breaks in one!

I love Rome and Palma best. I need sun too so wouldn't go to Bruges( dull) or Berlin until it hots up.

Misty9 · 05/04/2018 23:58

I like beautiful architecture, walking and warmth too. And plan on returning to Seville to experience more of these things! It's compact and easy to walk around. Lisbon also ticked all those boxes and is a 20min train ride to the coast :)
