Dordogne/Lot/Tarn-et-Garonne holiday base with two small children?

Hello, I'm considering these areas for next year's holiday (like to plan ahead!).

Previously, we've travelled around this region and seen lots that way, but we'll have a 4 and 6 year old next year. Therefore I'm trying to find a well-located base for a week or two, which would allow for going on the river perhaps, attractions, nice towns, day trips, markets, castles, churches, etc? I'll probably look for a gite with a pool, but we don't generally like to be still for too long!

Any suggestions of good villages or towns to be close to would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Domme is lovely, and close to the river (there's canoeing from Cenac just below).

We stayed in Beynac on our honeymoon, which was also lovely. This place looks nice.

Depending on your budget, maybe rent your own Chateau in La Roque-Gageac...

CardinalSin thank you! But my word, that Chateau! It'll be a lottery win before I do that I think.

Thanks for those places. I do love Beynac actually, so will look and I forgot about Domme! I am going to go and refresh my memory now.... I know I've been before....

We've been here a couple of times. It's brilliant with kids.

After reading this www.northofthedordogne.com/children.php it seems that Le Bugue and Limeuil are nice places to base yourselves with kids.

Roger AllamsFangirl that looks amazing! They have thought of everything!
