Restaurant recommendations in Rome

Off to Rome with the kids. Looking for restaurant recommendations. Casual places for a slice of pizza at lunchtime plus fancier places for dinners.

Many thanks.

Dino e Toni is the only memorable (for good reasons) restaurant we ate in Rome. There's no menu but the food was brilliant. Not fancy at all but a good bet at lunch time with children.

Pizzeria Emma in the historic centre - really good thin pizza , stylish surroundings, quite modern

Lunch at the above - but get there pronto at 12

I really don’t think you will struggle! There are these type of restaurants EVERYWHERE! Ok so it’s tourusty and at times you overpay a bit or one slice of pizza wasn’t as good as another... but it is Rome so the food, people, vibe and surroundings are always great Smile

Local people recommended La Gelateria Frigidarium

  • Via del Governo Vecchio 112 - for ice cream and it was absolutely fabulous.

I ended up taking a walk there every day.

Thank you. I'm trying to avoid the tourist traps if possible.

I can recommend Da Enzo too, book if you can. I also loved Roma Sparita, also in Trastevere. My favourite dinner place though was Armando al Pantheon, very Roman menu rather than just generic Italian and not touristy despite the location. I ended up hugging the chef and telling him I was going to write an Opera about the lamb (wine had been imbibed).

Would highly recommend Pizzeria Luzzi if you need lunch by the colosseum. Best lunch we had when in Rome last summer.

I disagree with this. There are some very expensive restaurants serving really terrible food in Rome.
We had lunch in the cafe in the middle of villa borgese once. I knew it would be expensive and not great but our toddler was starving and grumpy. I tried to order something cooked and the waiter warned me off it 😂 I got a caprese for about €10, the cheapest thing in the menu and was the worst I’ve ever had.
We often go to Forno Roscioli Pietro, on a side street off the v. Emanuale metro stop. If you want to sit in you need to get there early or get takeaway. Food is lush and lunch usually costs around €10 for our family of 3.

This is literally my favourite topic. Whereabouts are you staying?

There are a lot of crap places and finding somewhere nice does take a small amount of effort.

Never ever eat anywhere on the Piazza Navona. The location may be amazing but food will be terrible and the price extortionate.

Ristorante Piacere Molise just a few mins walk from the entrance to the Vatican Museums is fab. We've been to Rome lots of times and always go back there for the lovely food. Great value and delicious, authentic, fresh food. Staff are lovely with kids too.

The airport! Attimi by Heinz Beck, wow! He is the head chef at La Pergola but that’s booked months and months in advance (we couldn’t get in, it was the reason we stayed at that hotel 😭 luckily their normal restaurant was pretty good) but he has this tiny little ‘fast food’ place at the airport, you choose your ‘time’ 30/45/60 mins and they bring you a meal in that time. It was superb value for money too.

We liked Solo - www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187791-d9560303-Reviews-Solo-Rome_Lazio.html

We had two lovely pasta dishes and some delicious meats and cheeses as a starter. It was quiet enough early evening.

There are loads others but I’ve forgotten all their names. I’ll have a dig around!

@malovitt

We stayed a couple of minutes walk from fridgedarium. The chocolate fondant was the nicest ice cream I have had in my life! My dd also liked the Nutella.

Mami (Via della Pace 27/A, 00186 Rome Italy) which is in same area was great for pizza and zucchini tempura. You can choose size piece you want. Loads of flavours. 5 euros roughly I think for a good size piece.

Thanks. Some of these look lovely.

I am staying at Hotel de Russie but the concierge recommendations are about 3,000th out of 10,000 on Tripadvisor!

I'm loving the look of the airport restaurant. Looks like it will be a better option than the BA lounge. It seems to be in the Schengen zone so can it still be access if flying to the U.K.?
