Places to stay near Barcelona

We are hoping to have a short break near Barcelona but dont really want to stay in the city. Ive looked at Salou or Loret del mar -just random options- and they seem to have a bit of life about them with good travel links to Barcelona. Im not stuck on these, just an indication of where Ive considered.
Does anyone have any recent experience of where is a good enough place for a family of 4 with to stay,no young children and one adult with a mobility problem.

Not sure what it's like now but loret del mar used to be a down-market resort

We stayed in a family apartment at Sunway Playa Golf and Spa hotel in Sitges.
sunway-playa-golf-sitges.h-rez.com/rooms.htm This website confirms that they're wheelchair accessible and I reckon they'd be fine for all range of mobility problems.
Trains to and from Sitges and Barcelona run approximately every twenty minutes, taking 30-45 mins depending on time of day and which train you get.
The hotel has good access to the beach and the centre of Sitges. The hotel had free bikes available for us to use (including children's bikes).

Lloret de Mar must be one of the only unattractive resorts on the lovely Costa Brava. Passed through it several times going to Tossa de Mar (completely different, lovely town) but hilly so may not suit. Sitges is charming, no hills (that I recall) and even closer to Barcelona. Salou is very built up and very touristy.

I'm going to recommend Begur...we loved it and only an hour and a half to Barcelona...small town...

Begur is stunning! Very hilly though.

Whoops sorry..didn't see mobility issue until now

We have stayed in hotel portaventura a good few times. It's on the outskirts of salou and is a lovely hotel . The theme park and water park are on the doorstep if you want them . Also salou has a lovely beach only a short taxi ride away . It's a typical Spanish town but it's close to our hearts so we love it .

Malgrat de mar is gorgeous. Can walk along to santa Susana. Easy to get to Barcelona via public transport.

I've stayed in hotel papi which was lovely.

I know it's in Barcelona but I'm staying in the Poblenou district now and it's lovely. Quieter than the central city would be, all the amenities and close to the beach. I don't know your reasons for not wanting to stay in the city, but would it be an option?

I stayed in a hotel called something like Golden Taurus Park a couple of years back which was about an hour north of Barcelona on the train. It was less than 10 euros per person for a return ticket directly to Barcelona and the train station was about 10-15 min walk from the hotel.

The hotel was very family friendly, all inclusive and half board and was opposite a beach so would recommend!
