are smoke alarms supposed to go off on their own/self test?? inthe middle of the night when

noone is awake, and there is no cooking, no smoke in the house.

its prob been in there a yr and i wondered if it just self tests???

ours sounds (short, irregular bursts of sound) when the battery is running low

have tou tried replacing it?

will try the battery, i remember yrs back having an alarm the would do what your describing, but have heard nothing from it since 1.30 this morning!

yes it means the battery need replacing. Just bad luck it happened in the night.

Hoover smoke alarm and test once a month. Change batteries once a year even if they seem fine - is the advice.

I believe if you contact your nearest fire station they will come out and fit you a smoke alarm or two and theirs come with a ten year battery.HTH
