Indulgent solo holiday

I have had a fairly stressful year or so which is shortly due to come to an end (yay!)

So I am looking to go away for 10-14 days by myself to rest, relax and rejuvenate! A few “wants” are:

-warmth and sunshine
-ocean

  • a beautiful hotel/ resort/ surroundings with different spaces to walk, read, relax, lounge etc
  • nice food and wine with a bit of thought to it (i.e. nothing too mass produced)
  • optional yoga classes within the resort/ hotel or nearby would be nice (I do enjoy yoga retreats but not for this holiday as I want most of the time to be my own and not structured)
-Max 11 hour flight from the UK. Closer (i.e. Europe) would be preferable but not essential. -Max budget around 4K. Less obviously preferable! But would increase slightly for something amazing!

I love to travel but in this instance, the quality of the resort is more important than the culture because I just want to decompress a little bit Smile

Has anyone done something similar and has any recommendations?

There must be loads of things like this in the Greek or Spanish islands. Perhaps Croatia as well. When I have researched this sort of thing, I have wanted to go in the winter, so have looked at Costa Rica and Thailand for guaranteed sun

PARunnerGirl · 31/03/2018 10:20

Thanks Rumbly! Yes, these are exactly the countries I have come down to with my research too. Ibiza, Corfu and Costa Rica seem like good options. Good to know I am on the right track Easter Smile

Hoping someone might have a specific resort/ hotel recommendation

I can recommend you an amazing adults-only hotel in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco that I go to alone for "indulgent de-stressing long weekends". It's 50 mins in a car from Marrakesh (so days trip are an easy option if you felt that way inclined) so easy flying from the UK. They only have around 30 rooms but these are spread around over several acres of gardens so it's all very private and most days you hardly seen anyone (unless you want to). Lots of little spots to laze in/out of the sun and read/relax. Be warned that there are no TVs in the rooms although there is a private cinema you can book They have a fabulous restaurant and bar, and the owners Tara and Ed are SO welcoming. They have always really looked after me and I've felt very comfortable as a sole female guest. They have an excellent hamman on site too. But no ocean I'm afraid so doesn't tick all your boxes. It may also be more of a romantic retreat than a resort so depends on what you're looking for. If you're interested OP, PM me for the details. Pricewise it will come in under/on budget unless you want one of their top rooms/private villas with pool.

How beautiful HundredMiles!!! Coincidentally, I am also looking for a romantic break in Morocco later in the year! This is very odd as my boyfriend and I weee speaking about it again just yesterday. It looks like I will have to try very hard not to go here on my own and wait until he has some time off! Haha!

I looked on booking.com for hotels in Costa Rica. That & trip advisor reviews gave me some idea, but no specific recommendations as I haven’t been yet!

HundredMilesAnHour · 31/03/2018 12:37

PARunnerGirl maybe you can do a solo "research" trip or will he not fail for that one? Wink I've just PM'd you the details.

HundredMilesAnHour · 31/03/2018 12:38

Oops, that was meant to be fall, not fail. Sorry, wish I could blame auto-correct but it's just my bad typing.Blush

PARunnerGirl · 31/03/2018 15:02

HundredMilesAnHour Got it and I am verrrrrry tempted by the research trip idea! Haha! He would be absolutely fine, but I would like to experience it for the first time with him, I think. Maybe. Easter Grin

I'd suggest Atrium Prestige Thalasso on Rhodes. You could get a deluxe room with sea view and private pool for 12 nights in June within your budget. The pool is heated and on your own balcony with lounger and parasol. The room also has a spa bath and hot tub.
Daily yoga and meditation sessions
Spa with full range of treatments and large indoor pool
A choice of four restaurants
Terrace and gardens (which you stroll though to get to the beach)
Chapel for services or some peace
Small library

PARunnerGirl · 31/03/2018 20:39

RiceKrispie22 That looks absolutely perfect! Thank you so much for taking the time to make a recommendation! It’s doesn’t say anything about adults only... have you been and can you comment at all on that?

Atrium Prestige Thalasso is not adult only. Children are catered for, but only during high season. I went at the end of June and only saw one or two families with children. I saw far more people on their own. I went on the basis of what I had seen on booking.com 'Solo travellers particularly like the location — they rated it 9.1 for a one-person stay'. That was what sold it for me - I didn't want it to be full of couples on their honeymoon!

PARunnerGirl · 02/04/2018 08:54

RiceKrispie I think this is it! THANK YOU! Unless there is anyone who thinks they can trump it, I am booking this week!
