Advice about Kos-refugee situation

Hi, we are going to Kos in June for ten nights. I am wondering if anyone can advise about the current situation with refugees. I'm a bit concerned on two levels, one, if there are a lot of visibly destitute people, how can I explain that to my son who is very young. Two, if the number is still high, is there anything we could do to help-is it worth taking anything out with is and if so, what? Or more sensible to plan extra money in our budget to give. I have absolutely no hostility towards the refugees but want to be prepared for what the situation is so that I can deal with it well and set a good example for our son, and help if we are able.

I am going May . I was told by travel agent not an issue

I'm fairly sure it is still very much an issue but i wouldn't be surprised if the Greeks have done all they can to get the issue out of the sight of tourists.

No help to you at all but I remember having a fantastic holiday in Kos many years ago. It’s a beautiful place and I always wanted to go back but have been very nervous about it because of the refugee situation.

We are going in June. If you search the Kos forum on TripAdvisor this comes up regularly, and is always answered with "it's no longer a problem" .

Thanks all.

We were there last year and didn't notice an issue. We did see 2 beggars but theydidntseem to be refugees.

The refugees were processed and sent to various different countries in 2015 I believe. Certainly no issue with refugees when I visited in Sept 2016. I'm looking forward to returning in June for my honeymoon.

Went last September. Didn’t see one refugee or any situation which could lend itself to that being an issue.

Went last summer. Hired a car got out and about a fair bit. Didn't see one refugee or if I did I wasn't aware.
It's really not an issue for tourists.

We’ve flown there and gone to a smaller island from there for the last two years. We saw a sort of refugee housing area a couple of years ago (which was very well equipped) but no actual refugees and it wasn’t there when we went back last year
