Car Seat on Plane

Hi all
We have booked two short haul flights within Europe in the next couple of months and did not choose to buy an extra seat for DS. In retrospect we are wondering whether we should have for DS safety.
Have you bought extra seats in the past and strapped baby in a car seat or do you tend to go with them on your lap?
Really starting to doubt our decision.. Confused

How old will your DS be when you fly?

There are very few car seats that you can actually use on a plane. Usually they have to go in the hold.

My DS Was 9 and 11 months when I flew with him......he sat on my lap.

I wouldn’t bother with a short flight getting an extra seat. I only bought an extra seat when I came back from Oz as I was on my own, but I never used a car seat as had a bassinet.

They will give you a seatbelt extension for the baby to sit on your lap. They have to be on your lap with this in for takeoff and landing. They won't be allowed in a car seat... and where on earth would you put it?!
It gets checked into the hold.

I took my ds's car seat and it had to be checked in unless it was a high back booster seat which is approved for planes too.
