Dinosaur days out?

My DS is 8 and absolutely dinosaur obsessed, can anyone recommend any days out? We are in Surrey, but would happily travel a little way if it was worth it for a mini break as we haven't planned any holidays as such now.

I was just looking at something totally unrelated but saw that Knebworth House has a dinosaur trail. I’ve never been so can’t vouch for how good it would be. Paulton’s Park near Southampton has a dinosaur themed land with rides he could go on if he’s not a nervous 8 year old, some are quite tame but my ds who was 7 when we went last year wouldn’t go near some of them.

Dippy is on tour at the moment, I think in Dorset until May so could do a joint day out with a walk of the Jurassic Coast.

Kent has dinosaurs at wingham wildlife park (near Canterbury) which my ds adores, and i think howletts port lympne might also have them (but haven't been so can't confirm)

Also Lyme Regis (on the Jurassic coast in Devon) is fabulous for fossil hunting

York museum has a dinosaur display atm. Might be a bit far though. We are about an hour and 20 minutes by train and are combining a train trip and dinosaurs at some point.

The Isle of Wight is known as the UK's Dinosaur Capital for a good reason! The best attraction is Dinosaur Isle museum. The whole museum is filled with lights, sounds, smells and textures that bring the time of dinosaurs back to life. Amongst the many hands on interactives in the museum there is even a robotic dinosaur that you can control!
At Blackgang Chine theme park, also on the IOW, there's a Jurassic Park style Dinosaur safari called Restricted Area 5. Occasionally there are additional Dinosaur events such as Dinner with a Dinosaur.

We have been to Dorset Jurassic coast before - he has asked we go back and also to Isle of Wight museum and the one in London. He doesn't like rides unfortunately we did do paultons a few years back and his younger brother went but he wouldn't ride!

You may have missed it this year but you can stay on site in a Dino den and have a stay and play ticket including both the Dino park, splash and theme park. We just got back and I payed £116 for 4 of us staying over!!!! Incredibly good value and we loved it

Paradise wildlife park in Essex has a dinosaur zoo section now - haven't been so can't say what its like but it looks fab.

And paultons park in Dorset has a dinosaur land which also looks good.

catdogfish · 02/10/2018 18:15

I was going to say Crystal Palace but I haven't been there since I was a kid in the 90s eekkkk are the dinos still there?

BellMcEnd · 02/10/2018 18:16

Also, if you wanted a mini break you could tie it in with the Natural History Museum the following day? There’s also a mini farm in Crystal Palace Park and loads of nice cafes etc just up the road.

BellMcEnd · 02/10/2018 18:16

Yes they are, catdogfish!
