Suggestions for days out with DC in Yorkshire

HoorayForHolidays · 25/03/2018 23:02

We're travelling from Scotland to Tickton, near Beverley with our 5 DC, ages 4-16, for 4 nights in the second week of the Easter hols.

We're going to try to get to Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough, Filey and York whilst we're there.

Does anyone have any suggestions for interesting stuff or cool places we might not want to miss around those areas? It'll be our first time there.

North Yorkshire railway?

MrsPMT · 26/03/2018 13:41

Robin Hoods Bay is fab, def go there, lovely very steep village, great rock-pooling looking for fossils.

Whitby its a good idea to go on the open top bus tour as you get to see everywhere (Abbey, West Cliff) but the quaint shops in Church Street and Sandgate are fab. Take-away fish & chips eaten along the pier is great (but watch out for seagulls trying to steal them!)

Scarborough Peasholm Park is worth going to, pedal boats are fun.

A day in York just strolling around taking pics of all the cobbled streets and York Minster. We love York and Whitby.

Definitely go to the Scarborough Fair Collection of working vintage fairground rides. The Sealife Marine Sanctuary is a really decent aquarium with sharks, turtles, a giant octopus, penguins, a seal hospital, otters and more.
Older children might enjoy getting a fright at a Terror Tower in Scarborough. It's definitely too scary for me and not for the faint hearted. It's like a big haunted house thriller movie set.

Thank you for your brilliant suggestions so far. It's so good to have some local knowledge or a recommendation.

Ooh and the Deep.

Marmite27 · 30/03/2018 10:24

Brimham Rocks.

UnimaginativeUsername · 30/03/2018 10:27

If you want something outdoorsy, brimham rocks is great.

We're hoping to spend lots of it outdoors, with a few attractions thrown in for the DC. Does anyone know of any good deals on tickets? I had a quick look at Flamingo Land and it would cost us about £200 for the day!

Look up The Forbidden Corner. It's amazing and I've been with family near Beverley but the drive might be a bit too long.

Bempton cliffs are great for wildlife. The deep in Hull is a guaranteed good day- see the penguins- - especially if it's a rainy day. I'd get there early though, or later in the afternoon. Nice little museum at Skidby, a working mill, with cafe in the courtyard. That's very near to you.
Have fun!

Also- Beverley Westwood is great for letting off steam- loads of space. Beverley is a pretty town for a potter about.

HoorayForHolidays · 30/03/2018 11:56

We don't mind driving an hour or so from where we're staying.

Burton constable hall and burton Agnes hall are both half an hour away from you in Leven, if you fancy nice homes and gardens to see.
Spurn point is unique. They run a safari trip, which is fun if you like wild outdoors!

grafittiartist · 30/03/2018 12:12

The safari would need checking first- they may only run them in summer.

snewsname · 30/03/2018 12:13

Brimham Rocks is fab but only on a dry day or they will be too slippy to climb.
