Suggestions for days out with DC in Yorkshire

HoorayForHolidays · 25/03/2018 23:02

We're travelling from Scotland to Tickton, near Beverley with our 5 DC, ages 4-16, for 4 nights in the second week of the Easter hols.

We're going to try to get to Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough, Filey and York whilst we're there.

Does anyone have any suggestions for interesting stuff or cool places we might not want to miss around those areas? It'll be our first time there.

York Cold War bunker is an unusual and fascinating place, particularly for older DC. Modest entry fee and takes a couple of hours.

I'm from the whitby area you could do the steam train to Grosmont which some of Harry potter was filmed there, also you could climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey also the Open top bus!! You could have a trip out to sea on the esk belle or the old lifeboat.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park May be a bit of a drive but it's really great if the weather is dry. Can take a picnic to keep costs down and you only need to pay for parking.

Amazing sculptures and gorgeous scenery. Really is a high point of Yorkshire attractions.

Lots to do in York.
Steam railway to Grosmont has fantastic scenery.
The Forbidden Corner. I used to take my children twenty odd years ago with my friend she is now taking her grandchildren. They have all loved it and great for that age range. Could you go on the return journey? It is at Middleham.

In laws live near Beverly so we spend a lot of time doing days out in the area! We’ve enjoyed (in no particular order)
North York Moors Railway
The Deep (Hull) then Hull Old Town for a proper beer afterwards!
Sewerby Hall
Seaside at Hornsea for a walk and fish and chips
Beverly Westwood with a kite
East Park in Hull
Never tried it but would like to, William’s Den in North Cave

PixieL · 02/04/2018 21:55

Sorry, Beverley thanks auto correct!

reetgood · 02/04/2018 21:58

RSPB Bempton Cliffs is a great visit if they’re into nature spotting. Puffins (ok maybe a bit early for puffins). Save for a nicer day though... right on the cliffs and no fun in the rain.

MrsPnut · 02/04/2018 22:06

You’re the wrong side of the county for Brimham rocks but from Beverley then the east coast is easily accessible.
I’d do the Deep in Hull, the Malton to Pickering steam train, Whitby, Scarborough, Sewerby Hall and Bempton Cliffs (Puffins are there right now).

Skinnyfries · 02/04/2018 22:28

A couple more to add to the list:
Let Loose climbing/outdoor centre just outside Beverley
Bugtopia in Hornsea
Honeysuckle Farm in Hornsea
William's Den in North Cave.
Enjoy!

Creepy Crawlies in York is a fab day out! So is the Yorvik Viking Museum. Also National Railway Museum which is free!

York has soooo much more to do than Scarborough/Filey etc.

SickofThomasTheTank · 02/04/2018 23:39

Brimham Rocks now has an Adventure Farm Park which is great. Harrogate also has Mother Shipton's Cave

HoorayForHolidays · 03/04/2018 21:54

Thanks again everyone! DH is busy compiling our jam-packed itinerary using all your suggestions. Smile

I'm confused. Brimham Rocks didn't have an adventure farm park when we last went? And I couldn't see anything on the website?

snewsname · 03/04/2018 23:28

We were there last August and there was no farm. Is it new?

Beaverlac · 03/04/2018 23:36

Danes Dyke, past Sewerby, before Flamborough. Everything for outside activity, safe beach, hillsides and trees to climb and scramble over. Used to take mine and they just disappeared for the day. Flamborough light house, and down on the beach, especially the caves.

purpleme12 · 04/04/2018 01:35

I can't really see a lot on there. Is it in the grounds of Brimham Rocks?

purpleme12 · 04/04/2018 01:50

From the little I can see it looks like a seperate business near Brimham Rocks

mangomama91 · 04/04/2018 01:58

EUREKA! In Halifax
I haven't been since I was about 10/11? And I'm 26 now but it is amazing!

alphajuliet123 · 04/04/2018 15:58

Did you know you can go to Eureka for child free boozy evenings? They run them every few weeks I think. My friend (mum of 3) went and said it was brilliant!
