Malaga area October half term

I’ve booked flights for me, my mum and DDs 11 and 8 for 4 nights in October half term to Malaga. We were supposed to be staying with a relative but circumstances have changed so we now need accommodation.

I’ve never been to anywhere like Malaga before as we tend to camp in the UK or NW Europe. Will pools still be open in late October. We plan to visit Granada so thinking Nerja could be a good choice.

Any recommendations or tips for this area particularly in autumn?

We went to Benalmadena last October and loved it, in process of planning our return this Oct.
We stayed at the Marina end which was a little more pricey than the other end but it was beautiful.
It was lovely and warm and used our pool at the villa every day. It was heated although probably would have been fine if it hadn't been.
The taxi transfer was only about 15 or 20 mins so for the first time we didn't hire a car.

We regularly go to the Costa Del Sol in the October half term. Torremolinos is surprisingly nice out of season, also been to Benalmadena, also nice. Last year we went to Marbella, further away from the airport but it was lovely and my favourite of the three. We have been quite lucky with the weather and the beaches are pretty quiet.

Nerja is one of the nicer areas around Malaga. Lovely beaches and restaurants. It feels safe. It doesn't have a train station though, so trips out are on buses or taxis. We went from Nerja to Malaga, Frigliana & Granada on buses and had a great time. The caves in Nerja are well worth a visit. Pool was open in our hotel in Sep/Oct.
