Making up formula milk in France - tap or bottled?

We are due to fly to France with our four month old baby and have been warned against using the water for making up formula milk. We have also been warned against using bottled water in case of high sodium and mineral levels. OK, but what to use instead???

It probably depends on where you are going. The tap water should be fine most places unless you are in the country and it is coming from a well that could have been contaminated with animal matter.... If you are concerned, just boil it first. There are bottled waters that have lower sodium/mineral levels. I'm not sure which ones though.

The French all use Evian to make up bottles, infact most french people seem to use bottled water for babies and children. The bottles even have a baby bottle symbol on them to signify it is safe to use, - not too much sodium and mineral etc

My HV recommended Evian as it has low sodium (and potassium I think) compared to others.

Another vote for Evian. If for any reason you cannot find it in a shop where you are, check the label carefully for the words "convient aux biberons" - it means suitable for baby formula mixing - or the bottle symbol, as Alibubbles says. There are other, locally-sold brands in France which have a similar, very low mineral content to Evian. But it is VERY widely available so I am sure you'll be fine.
Have a lovely time.

I got back from France a couple of weeks ago and used tap water with no ill effects. you will have boiled before using it so don't worry about it!
I will say that I found the water very chalky. This did not alter the taste but did leave unsightly deposits on the bottles, beakers etc. after I had boiled them in a saucepan to sterilise.

You could boil the water,or if you are very worried, you can buy formula milk that is already made up. It there it is avaiable in France.
We used the cartons here for days out its great stuff but can be expensive.

Thanks for all the advice - I will probably go for the Evian option. You have really put my mind at rest!
