Barbados for three/four nights

We’ll be on a cruise that ends in Bridgetown, Barbados, and have the chance to add some time there afterwords. Can anyone recommend an area to stay, please? We’d rather have towns to wander around than beaches, though somewhere coastal is fine, and ideally an area with a good choice of restaurants. Hastings looks promising, but any advice would be great.

Also, would three nights give us a enough time to get a good feel for the island, or should we add a fourth?

Thank you!

I would actually defer a visit there because of the ongoing problems with sewage effluent.

Thanks Attila, I’ll have a look at that.

I'd go up the west coast, it is where the best beaches and restaurants are. We last stayed at Treasure Beach which was really well located but has been refurbished since we went and prices seem to have gone through the roof! We could walk to a few restaurants or take a cab up to Holetown. In the day, if not on the beach, there is a fair bit to do (in comparison to other Caribbean islands). You can comfortably take the bus up and down the coast, take a Segway tour, a jeep safari, go to plantations, visit caves, wildlife park, submarine trip, catamaran rides. In other words, there is plenty to do if you want to stay for a 4th day. Are you with or without children?

I wouldn't go all inclusive in Barbados, there are too many lovely restaurants.

Thank you, Chewbecca, that’s really helpful.
