City / town to take the kids to

We would like to go away for 3 nights (approx) this Easter and I am thinking that due to the recent freezing weather we are having in the UK anything too outdoors based is out of the questions.

DCs are 3 & 6yrs, 3yr old is surprisingly quite a good walker so getting around a small ish town with plenty of museums / interesting places to visit is probably going to be the best option. I am thinking of doing an Air B&B to keep the costs down a bit.

We have done York but any other suggestions? Budget isn't huge so I am thinking not London (also too big).

Anyone been to Bath, Bristol, Oxford or similar with young ish kids?

Cambridge? Generally flat, loads of places to stop and eat as well as things go look at and museums.

Bath is lovely and small enough to potter around if you stay centrally or drive in and park each day. It's a bit hilly though so maybe makes it more difficult for the little one.

Chester?
You can walk the medieval walls, see the river and the canal, go to the zoo (as in Secret Life of... ), sundry museums, lots of Roman stuff, shops.

Yes, either of those could work, we are quite close to Chester though so perhaps not far eough for a couple of nights away! Good idea though for day trip.

Both Bath and Cambridge would be great. Although in a way you'd miss the best of Cambridge if it stays this cold as you couldn't do punting or grantchester.
Edinburgh would also be good.

Bristol is great with young children. We Are The Curious is an outstanding science museum. The zoo is one of the best in the country and the aquarium is also a good indoor attraction. Children love exploring above and below deck on Brunel's ship at the harbourside and they can follow a series of crew challenges to see what job onboard would have suited them best!

Bath and Chester are both nice, although Chester zoo is expensive. Manchester has lots of museums that are great for children.
