Roda Corfu - ok for October ?

Hi we are looking to go to Greece in October. Specifically Roda in Corfu. We want somewhere smart, quietish and not too far from the airport. No more than 3hr 20 min flying. Does anyone think this is suitable? We normally do menorca or Majorca but wondering about something different . THanks all

Yes Roda is fab!! The 'resort' will start closing in October but there are some bars and restaurants that are open all year round. Same with all Greek resorts. Acharavi is a 15 min walk away along the beach and it's a proper working town so easy enough to pop in there as well, and Corfu Town, Kassiopi and Sidari are all easily accessible by bus., I love Roda!!

Are you flying from the UK? 3 hours 20 sounds short for the flight to Greece.

Orchidflower1 · 19/03/2018 09:18

Thank you for the replies jock how do you find the transfers? We are thinking of having a taxi as hate waiting around for other people and their luggage. We would probably only take hand luggage.

barbara we are in the uk-I’m only going by Thomas cook brochure for flight times. Is it longer than that to Corfu? We’ve only done Majorca and menorca with dc as ds has travel sickness and can’t really cope with much more. That’s why I’m really unsure about going further. I’m happy with Spain but dd and dh fancy a change. Not totally decided hence the questions! Thanks again.

We go to Corfu a lot and from the south of England it is less than 3 hours.

I've not been to Roda as we normally stay in the NE bit further down - Kassiopi is lovely though for a day out.

We have always hired a car, so not used transfers sorry. If you look on the agni travel website they have lots of information and may suggest a transfer.

Thank you msmgee, just spoken to neighbour whilst putting bin out and he said they went to Roda and “it was awful”- wouldn’t elaborate but when I ask when he said “oh when dd was 2” - their dd is now 19!
Argh holidays are supposed to be relaxing but I find the sorting out so stressful and don’t even get me started on passport renewal!

If you want smart, I would look at Kassiopi before Roda, but I am sure it has changed a lot in 17 years!

It is closer, so less of a transfer and it is very lovely. I have been to Achavari and wasn't particularly keen on the bit between the beach and the town - but the town is useful as it has everything you need.

The other thing to consider is that October is pretty late in the season for Corfu, so peoples experiences in the height of summer won't be that relevant!

FakeMews · 19/03/2018 14:02

October is late for the Ionians, resorts will be closing down and the weather could be poor. It generally rains more there than other parts of Greece. If I was going in October and wanted a better chance of good weather I would head further south to the Dodecanese.
If you don't mind risking the weather, and it could be lovely, then Corfu is beautiful and so is Roda.

Orchidflower1 · 19/03/2018 14:26

Thanks fakemews I had wondered when corfu etc “shut”. I’d looked at Crete but it’s further than we wanted to travel. Ds struggles on flights to Balearics. We’ve done menorca in October ( was very quiet) and had one wet day and others warm so just wondering about Majorca as probability of similar weather to Corfu, hour less flight and a bit cheaper.

Just looked on a map, Corfu isn't where I thought it was Blush.

What about Malta, or Gozo if you want very small and quiet. We've been a couple of times in October and weather has been sunny and hot.

FakeMews · 19/03/2018 14:42

I agree weather in Majorca is likely to be similar and could be nice. I once had a full seven days of rain in Majorca in October so that's why I'm probably risk averse as far as holiday weather is concerned!

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/03/2018 14:49

BA website says 4 hrs 5 mins London to Corfu BTW, so it's not just me. About 3 hours to Malta. Gozo, while nicer is a bit of a trek because you have to add on nearly an hour by road across Malta and a half hour (very smooth in my experience) ferry ride plus travel to your final destination in Gozo, which is 20 minutes at most as tiny island.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 19/03/2018 15:19

I went to roda last year and absolutely hated it!
Sorry but had to write. The beach was really not very nice and there were only a handful of nice restaurants. We were really disappointed. I would fly with easyjet and look at different parts of Corfu.
It will be closing down in October though and the weather may be really dodgy.

FakeMews · 19/03/2018 15:21

I flew to Corfu a couple of years ago from Robin Hood airport and it was about 3.5hours. Corfu airport is grim, possibly the worst I've ever been to. On our return after check in there was not even floor space to sit down, let alone seats. Filthy toilets with very long queues, hardly anywhere to buy food. Good job I love the rest of the island as I'm going again in July!

Orchidflower1 · 19/03/2018 19:06

Thanks all for your input. We’ve decided to hang fire on booking anything as we’re so undecided. I think as a first visit to Corfu October is probably not the time to go. Thanks for the input on the airport itself too. 🙂
