Corfu advice

We are planning a trip to Corfu and have already booked flights but no accommodation. We want to go self-catering and I'm not sure whether to try and get a villa with a pool in case its not hot enough (going for just over 2 weeks from end April to mid may). We are travelling in the Dutch school holidays with our almost 10 year old so I realise most people in the UK wouldn't go their with their kids during that time, but hoping some might have advice on the weather who aren't constricted by school holidays such as people with under 5s etc. We want to be somewhere quiet, close to nature if possible and near the sea. I've never been to Greece and have tried to do some research but cannot make a decision on anywhere...any tips on sites to book Villas/self-catering from welcome as well as where to stay in Corfu for 2 weeks much appreciated. Also trying to do it on a budget so not looking for anywhere too exclusive! Thank you Smile

I've only been to Corfu once (2017) so am no expert but thought I'd post as no one else has so far Grin. We went to the NE coast so can only comment on the area from between Kalami and Kassiopi! Lovely area but you need to check what will be open the first 2 weeks in May? We were there in August and even in peak season Kerasia and Avlaki beaches were virtually empty at 10am which was great (much busier by the time we left at 1pm). There are plenty of villas to rent in the area, I saw lots of www.villaplus.com/ signs. Warning - Corfu airport ranks amongst the worst I've every been toGrin.

Thanks for the advice! Yes the NE seems to be a beautiful area from what I've read and I think we will be aiming for somewhere around there. I will check the website you sent thanks. I read something about Corfu airport too not being great...

We went to Arillas, and liked it so much we went back there the following year.

I went to sidari a few years ago at the start of the 2nd week in May. We had a rain storm 1 evening but the weather overall was glorious. I was in the pool most days.

LoniceraJaponica · 17/03/2018 20:25

We were about 12 miles from Sidari. We dropped off at Sidari and TBH I didn't like what I saw. We prefer low key uncommercialised resorts. and Arillas ticked all the right boxes. The tavernas were excellent and if you eat on the sea front you can watch the sunset.

Thanks all, its always useful to have tips like this. perpetual good to hear you had nice weather in May Smile. Normally we travel around a bit, but this time we are staying put in the same spot for 2 weeks so trying to find the right spot!

Once out of Corfu Town the roads in the NE are very twisty and steep (and narrow once off the main roads)....confident driver required.

sunmonkey · 17/03/2018 20:41

Ok good to know. My Husband is a confident driver but will have to warn him of that...

We went to Agios stephanos I think, there may be two of those though on the island. The roads were really windy to get there but once we were there it was amazing. We had a great time in a villa over looking a lovely little bay. Lots of walks and not far to the beach. Think we just googled a villa. Had a pool and a hot tub. It was lovely. We could see another country (Albania?) from our pool.

sunmonkey · 18/03/2018 20:47

Sounds lovely rextrex! I'm looking forward to it - just need to find the villa, but at least I know where to aim for now and think it will be the North East of the Island.

I love a good holiday challenge here?, or here...or here Grin.

sunmonkey · 19/03/2018 09:31

Thanks user148 ! The 1st villa is lovely but not available during our dates. 2nd villa is too expensive for us, but the last is a very good option! For 200pounds more we could have our own villa and pool but its miles away from anywhere and only available for 14 of the 16 nights needed, so this could be the one Grin

Oh wow, villa no 2 has a pool table as well...its really nice. Way out of budget though.
