Advice required re. East Midlands Airport - parking onsite?

I would like any information anyone has re parking at EMA. I really don't want to have to take a bus to the terminal building. Which is the best park to use within walking distance?

I am not sure there is one within walking distance for 'long term' i.e. if you want to leave your car whilst on holiday.

We have used the long stay one a couple of times and have never had a problem with the bus.

jujuthejetmum · 07/05/2007 14:40

Thanks, but No, I had a really bad experience when I did that a couple of years ago (and once before we had the kids) when the bus driver refused to help me with pushchair and toddler and I was pregnant. We felt like because we had the kids that we were an inconvenience to everyone else. It was really stressful so not prepared to risk the bus thing again.

Trying to get nearest to airport for least stress, I hate having to ring and wait for the bus to come and fetch you when you land too.

looking on the mumsnet bcp page it looks like there may is NEMA prestige indoor parking but says "across the road from the terminal building" - is that within walking distance or a bus ride away?

Or alternative is Carparks 2 and 3 within walking distance of terminal but also states regular courtesy transport to terminal so may be a long way to walk?

Have a look on local.live.com

Type in East Midlands airport and then request photo/aerial view.

The short term parking is right across from the terminal exit, like crossing a road distance. There's an orange building on the rhs which is an hotel.

Off to the left are more car parks but I don't know which of these are staff/holidaymakers. All would be walkable but could be a good 10 mins, I suppose.

We only live 10 mins from the airport so I never use anything other than short-term for dropping off and picking up.

SueW · 07/05/2007 14:54

BTW, that photo looks a bit different to how the airport looks now. We went through about 2 weeks ago and quite a bit has changed round the terminal area.

I don't know anything about undercover parking.

SexyMadSozzleder · 07/05/2007 14:55

NOt sure about the other carparks - have only ever used the one that was booked by our travel agent. I know it was the furthest away.

I realise you have had a bad experience...but as far as ringing and waiting for a bus is concerned - that has never been necessary. I think we have flown from EMA 3 times and every time the bus has been at the bus stop 'waiting'.

SueW · 07/05/2007 14:56

Just remembered - I think I have parked in the bottom car park, many moons ago. That's definitely walking distance.

Check in is the big white square bit with a blue-ish line down the middle.

SexyMadSozzleder · 07/05/2007 14:57

SueW - whree are you - I am only 20mins away from EMA - so we must be fairly local.

SexyMadSozzleder · 07/05/2007 14:59

The long stay car park we used is probably about a 10min walk without luggage (maybe 15).

SueW · 07/05/2007 15:00

'Lovely' Long Eaton

Where are you?

SexyMadSozzleder · 07/05/2007 15:01

6miles south of loughborugh

SueW · 07/05/2007 15:03

I used to work in Lboro. At the bank on the industrial estate, many many moons ago.

SexyMadSozzleder · 07/05/2007 15:04

I know where you mean.....go in there regularly...

jujuthejetmum · 07/05/2007 19:30

Hi, sorry only just got back in to catch up on the replies

Great advice here - thanks hhhmmm not sure what to do..

jujuthejetmum · 07/05/2007 19:38

SueW can you use short term parking if away for a week?

It may be too far for us to walk with 2 little ones and 3 suitcases to the terminal. I would ask someone to drop us off but it will be very early hours and on a work night. I think I need to make my mind up if to brave the bus again or get a taxi

does this help? Looks like you will be restricted to the long stay which - it states IS a bus journey away.

If you are travelling with DP/DH you could consider one of you collecting car via bus and the other waiting at terminal with DC and/or luggage. NOt ideal but might help.

If you are only in Notts (I see from your profile) your taxi might be as cheap.

Skribble · 07/05/2007 21:40

Info

jujuthejetmum · 07/05/2007 22:05

SMS good idea! I think we will do that. Taxi is likely to cost about £80-100 which we can't really spare. Thanks for the links. Ju

But on the other hand if bus turns up and driver is nice and friendly you have the option of you all hopping on if you want to. Almost the best of both worlds???

SMSDidntMeanToOffendDido · 07/05/2007 22:14

Or I'll come and be your Taxi for £40!!!

SMSDidntMeanToOffendDido · 07/05/2007 22:14

That last post was a joke BTW gievn you have already admitted it will be middle of teh night

jujuthejetmum · 07/05/2007 22:57

Off to bed now but couldn't resist -

NO! you've committed now - pick us up about 4.00am?

Premier parking (can book online via bmibaby website) is just behind the main terminal. Parked there in march - I think £5 OR £7 more than the other car park for a 4 day stay.
Says it is 2 minutes walk but probably in reality with pram,4 year old & luggage was more like 5 minutes - basically you just have to walk around from the back of the terminal building to the front.

jujuthejetmum · 08/05/2007 18:50

Thanks - lots to consider here...
I've just had a quote for a local company of £80

OP posts:
SueW · 09/05/2007 08:01

DH gets a taxi to Birmingham airport quite often - fixed fare £50 each way, approx 1 hour journey (plus they have to drive back of course)

For us to go to EMA, tops 15 mins - £15

If you do get a taxi, make sure a local firm picks you up. There's a premium for using the dedicated airport firm (Chequers/Checkers?)
