Nerja. Anybody been? Did you like it?

Going in July, and the photos I’ve seen only seem to show the viaduct and the Balcon De Europa, no pics of the streets that much. It looks nice otherwise, or we wouldn’t have booked it.
No one we know has been, only one person and she was only 6 when she went..
Planning a day in Frigliana also.

I have been several times as a friend has a holiday home there - I love it. Nice beaches, plenty of places to eat out for all budgets, town is very traditional. Reasonable public transport for short trips to nearby places such as Frigliana but we have always hired a car so could travel further afield to places like Granada and the Alpajurras

It's great, you'll need air-con in July.

Hire car is useful if you've got somewhere to park it (parking in town is difficult). It's a lot less British than many resorts,

Dreadful place stay away from it.

Avoid Jose Cruz at all costs, surly staff, you are given stale bread whether you want it or not and then charged for it.

It’s lovely. Possibly the hottest I’ve ever been on holiday though, 39 or 40 degrees everyday in August.

We had a fantastic fortnight there, it's a lovely place. Very pretty and very spanish if that makes sense. We had a villa on the outskirts which was lovely. A hire car to explore the area is worthwhile, especially into the Mountains.

I've only ever stopped for lunch when passing through to somewhere else, but I've always liked it.

I've been and am going again this year with a 13 and 14 year old. My friend has an apartment there as she loves it so much. It's great - lovely beaches, great places to eat and drink, beautiful weather - gets bloody hot. I'd recommend having a place with a pool. Parking in the town a nightmare but having a car can be useful if you want to go a bit further afield. The river walk is fantastic fun, good water sports on the beach. Burriana gets busy so depends what you like but some lovely other quieter options. I found it really helpful to do some research before going on restaurants, bars etc. There are some fab ones, but also some that are about charging you for stale bread! Check out pharmacy shopping for skincare also whilst you're there if that's your thing

The caves are worth a visit.
Having a car is worthwhile as lots of places to visit in the hinterland, especially Granada.
There was one village we visited with a walk down a gorge onto a dry river bed through some enormous caves - can't recall the name though.

We went a couple of years ago. Lovely place. The caves are interesting and great to cool down in.
Lots of little streets to wander up and down in town, very pretty in the evening. Pinocchio Italian restaurant very family-friendly, and fab ice-cream places to walk down to the Balcon with.

I have been and thought it was a pleasant enough place, but went as part of a 2 week trip to Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Ronda and Nerja and much preferred Seville and Granada to Nerja. But then I do tend to prefer bigger places and am not much of a beach person. (The beaches in Nerja were okay but have been to much nicer ones in other places).

I also prefer places that feel like you are in another country and in Nerja I mainly heard British (and German and Swedish) accents, so it felt less Spanish and more touristy than some of the other places I went. However if you walked north of the beach area the town was less touristy and there were some great tapas bars (would recommend Restaurante Bar La Puntilla in that area if you like seafood - ask for the grilled calamari.)

Another really good place to eat was Posada de Iberica - a bit closer to the beach/Balcon area and run by a very nice couple - great steaks and excellent iberico secreto + good red house wine.

For churros con chocolate try Coffee Bar Four Corners
(Café Bar las Cuatro Esquinas).

Would also recommend the caves. Frigliana was pretty but a bit mobbed by tourists. Day trip to Granada worthwhile.

Easy to get to caves, Frigliana, Granada, Malaga etc by bus if you want to explore further afield....

Overall I think it's a good choice, plenty of less attractive/more developed places along that coastline anyway.

We visited in February for the first time and had a lovely holiday. Very chilled out. Lots of good bars & restaurants. Cheap. We did trips to the caves, which were incredible, Frigliana (loved it) and Malaga for the day. We will probably return at some point.

We stayed in frigiliana for a week last summer. Loved it. Did the Rio chillar walk from nerja, was amazing. Loved the caves too and the restaurant 34 Carribeo. The beach and sewage problem is a major issue and we saw toilet paper and poi floating in Sea. Look on trip advisor. We tried to avoid by going up to almunecar but it was bad there too.

Have been three times over last ten years as a family. We have all enjoyed it . Great places to eat out, lovely walks too.

I've been a few times - really like it. We tend to stay in apartment on the edge of the town so we can walk to restaurants in the evening. We have on a couple of occasions stayed further out and as another poster said, parking can be difficult.

However we have gone out of the main Summer season - October/New Year/ Easter so I don't know what it would be like in July in terms of both temperature and crowds.

It's lovely! Small but we liked that. The caves are great and only a little way away. You can also do a day trip to Granada and the Alhambra easily (it's a long day but worth it).

We have a place in torrox which is the next village along and lovely

Spent loads of holidays there as a kid and loved it. Mind you, was 20 years ago, but great place.

SOrry posted too soon - it’s lovely up in torrox campo with umbrellas and water fountains etc and lovely restaurants for dinner. You can get a bus from Nerja for about €2 and then there’s a little open bus that goes up there from torrox costa.

Also if you have kids there is a small but good water park in velez Malaga which is only about 30 mins away by car

We were planning on going in October when DH retires. Might have to rethink that.
