Foreign wedding

WWYD? I need the MN jury to help me decide!

So SIL has decided to get married mid May. She lives a 5 hr flight away in the country where DH comes from. The majority of his family live there too.

DH and our pre school DC will attend the wedding but both SIL and MIL are giving us a guilt trip over me and the other DC (reception and Y3) not attending. I am 99% certain the absence would not be authorised.

I don't really like to take them out of school and am concerned about a fine. The school is super strict on attendance and does put cases forward for fining. Say we take them out for 4 days, we could have a £500+ fine awaiting our return on top of flights of say £1k plus (for 4 people plus infant).

I'd love to attend the wedding, I really would but it might mean the loss of a decent family holiday in the summer. We could always go and visit for a decent length of time this summer instead and give our congratulations.

WWYD? As I say DH will attend SILs wedding.

I doubt you would get a fine for a family wedding go to the wedding just inform school and see if it gets authorised
