Which is best? and why?

Taking the DS's (4 and 2) to one or the other 2mo with BIL and his GF but we can't decide!!

I have never been to either so got no idea and DP last went to them when he was about 9 so i think its safe to say his opinion is outdated!!

Also, which is better in the rain?(in case of rain 2mo)

Have got fantastic memories of both. They were regular Sunday treat locations when I was a child.

I went to Lyme Park once with a friends family, showing off I rolled down a small hill......... and into the lake.
Her parents made me sit on newspapers, and plastic bags all the way home, as I picked pondweed out of my hair.

Tatton Park was the scene of a memorable picnic involving exploding ginger beer bottles and a swarm of wasps.

Ah, happy days

Both have big old houses that you can go round, and wasn't Lyme Hall where they filmed the Colin Firth Pride and Predjudice? In fact if it was, then we shared the very same lake

DrippingLizzie · 06/05/2007 22:18

Tatton's much better for the kiddiwinks, IMO. Both wonderful for hiking/views but Tatton just shades it for being that little bit more child-friendly.

Whizzz · 06/05/2007 22:19

Yes P&P was filmed at Lyme Park but I believe they used a substitute lake for Mr Darcy

CuriousSquid · 06/05/2007 22:19

the boys would prob not entertain the house lol!

What time does tatton open on BH? this could well have a bearing. I can't find it on their website. lyme is 11. DP wants to go there because its nearer . actually it is, if i go to the top of the hill by my house i can see the cage

Tatton has beautiful gardens, especially a japanese area, and throughout there are lots of hidey places for small children to run around in. There's the farm, and from I remember a better cafe than at Lyme. Also right under the flight path for Manchester Airport so with any luck(??) you'll get some low flying planes to point at.

With rain? Hmmmm. I've been round the house at Tatton - typical stately home so possibly a bit boring for 2 and 4 year olds (didn't stop me though ) and I've not been in the house at Lyme (can you go in???).

GythaOggsFrog · 06/05/2007 22:25

Aw, don't spoil it Whizzz.............and here's me thinking we shared the same fluid ,...........and pondweed.

CuriousSquid · 07/05/2007 21:34

We went to lyme in the end. Had a LOVELY day. The boys loved the parks (all 3 parts!) and we walked for a bit and ended up joining the national trust so we can go again when the boys are more co operative! (borrowed some money so we don't have to fork out all at once) Also means we can do tatton in a few weeks too lol!

DS2 fell asleep the second we put him in the carseat lol
