Lapland

We would like to take DD to Lapland this Christmas. 3 night break probably. Feeling a bit overwhelmed at how much variety there is and research to do. Has anyone been and can anyone recommend anything. We don’t want super basic in a mass hotel, but equally we are not dripping with money currently, so something mid range I guess.

Thank you in advance

We spent 4 nights in Lapland about 4 years ago - arranged our own flights with Finnair and stayed in Kuusamo...I have linked the hotel which was nicely priced with loads of facilities (I think you can book through booking.com)

There were a group of 10 of us (my DD was the oldest and even though she had stopped believing in FC had a wonderful time).

The FC experience was wonderful, very personal and not rushed I think we spent about 4 hours there with the kids baking Gingerbread and Sledging - even special for adults.

We also found a wonderful place in the middle of a forest which did the Husky/Reindeer and snowmobiling experiences - again the experience was not mass produced. Everything was affordable and not overpriced.

If you like to ski there is the possibility at Ruka.

I think the flights and accommodation came to under £400 pp obviously then you add in activities and evening meals (Finland is very expensive in terms of food and drink).

We went in December - I did lots of research and booked it all myself. It cost £850 approx - excluding expensives - for 4 nights/4 full days for husband, son and myself. Overnights in Helsinki, Rovaniemi and 2 nights on the sleeper train there and back which was an amazing experience.

I actually wrote it all up for other people. If you’ve not already booked pm me and I’ll send you my notes!
