DP plans to take me away in May for belated 40th. I have always wanted to go to Lake Garda and make the most of being child free.
I am really undecided on which resort though and which hotel. I want something 4* and where I can just chill by the pool but also have something close by to walk to/wander around. We like eating out etc.
Theres so many resorts I dont know which to choose?

Bardolino is terrific. Last time we stayed in the Hotel4Stagioni, it's 3star+
Right in the centre of town, outdoor pool and gardens, pretty spa with heated inside/outside pools and treatment rooms, tons of restaurants and bars within strolling distance and has the ferry station for dotting around visiting other lakeside towns. There's a lovely walkway that takes you to either Cisano 30 mins in one direction or Garda Town 40 mins in the other if you fancy a walk.
The hotel does offers of inclusive spa treatments and wine tasting visits at the local vineyard - really worth it and excellent value.

Wow that post was long, we go sans kids every year - love it 😁

Limone is lovely, I stayed there last summer and it was just gorgeous. You can visit the town across the lake (Malcesine?) and go on the cable cars, or go over to Riva at the end of the lake - both a short ferry ride away. Lots to do in Limone itself. We stayed in Hotel Castell which was really centrally located (as long as you don't mind all the steps! Grin). We also did a day trip to Verona.

You cant go wrong really with any resort - my favourites are Sirmione (there are some really lovely hotels there) or Bardolino. For me those two can easily access others via the boat system. Malcelsine I found when I visited it to feel a little bit more cut off.

Sirmione though is a bit more touristy so is slightly more expensive restaurants etc.

We stay at Hotel Gardenia al Largo at Gargnano. Family run terrific food, lakeside garden you can swim from.

That should be all Lago

Predictive text! Sorry Hotel Gardenia al lago, it’s a short beautiful walk alongside the lake to the town of Gargnano where you can get boats all over the lake. DHLawrence stayed there and they have their own lemon grove. The rooms are lovely You can walk in the mountains and lots of lovely places to visit.

Bardolino is one of the quieter ones. The Hotel Color may suit you - edge of the village, pool, official no reserving sunloungers policy. Excellent restaurants in town, also the wine museum and some agriturismo restaurants are in walking distance.
There's good buses along that side of Lake Garda, too, so can go to Gardaland or the water park or Malecesine or Sirmione easily.
