Dordogne in August

Hello. We're after any recommendations for a week in the Dordogne in August. We've already booked one week somewhere we've been previously, but they didn't have availability for two weeks, so we're opting for a two-centre holiday. We're 4 - me, DH, DS (14) and DD(11) - we'd want a pool (private or shared, not bothered), self-catering, ideally some green space for games, but not essential and near some nice restaurants. Budget for accommodation for the week is £1,000-£1,500 tops. TIA

Hi

Two summers ago we spent a week here:

www.cournethaut.com/

Lovely location; our two boys (then 12 and 15) loved the pool, tennis and boules; great location for sightseeing; lovely owners. We also spent three nights on the coast south of Bordeaux for beach/sand dunes.

We stayed here last year. I think it ticks all the boxes.

We stayed here www.pierreetvacances.com/gb-en/fp_MFL_self-catering-monflanquin-lac?season=SUMMER&hc=MFL15&duree=7&dated=2018-10-03&nba=0&nbc=0&nbb=0#page
Restaurant du Lac, a few minutes walk away has a great view over the lake (traditional cuisine).
We liked the option to order fresh bread and pastries to the apartment.
There's a games room with table tennis, table football etc..
Bike hire is also available.
There's a gym, mini golf, tennis courts and riding stables all within walking distance and rock climbing, canoeing/kayaking within a short drive.
It's definitely worth getting out and about exploring the local towns and villages, they are just so beautiful.

Another vote for cournethaut as linked by half empty. We’ve been twice and it’s great for families of all ages. There’s tons of space, plus tennis, bikes, pool. Last year we combined it with a week on the Atlantic coast too, which was an easy drive. As pretty as the dordogne is, I do like to see the sea on my summer holiday!

Agree that Cournet Haut looks lovely but no availability Sad. One for the holiday ideas file though. I know what you mean about the seaside EmmaCB1 but the river and a pool will do me for summer Smile

I think you might find that many of the nicer established Dordogne places are already booked up for August. When we went last summer we couldn’t quite get the weeks we wanted for August at the place we wanted so had to compromise and go at the very end. And we were booking in July OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR!!
