No frills Portugal recommendations?

My holiday-loving MIL and her best pal (both 68) love their package holidays and are looking to go to Portugal in Sept. Any recommendations? Near the beach, but not near the bar strip, hotel entertainment in the evening would be ideal. Fairly cheap and cheerful - they just like their sun and half-board breakfast and dinner buffet!

DH and I have tried to stress they could go anywhere else in Spain/Greece etc and it would probably be all the same, but they're adamant they want Portugal as they've never been before!

Thanks!

Depends how lovely they r personally I would avoid Albuferia. Alvor might be worth a look for Sept.

Lively not lovely. Albuferia is much more brash and busy English breakfast English food etc. Alvor is much more family orientated in summer months when we have visited but come the first week in September it is a combination of families with pre schoolers and couples and friends not governed by taking holidays outside of term time.
