Going to Lanzarote as a group for my mums 70th over NY. Thinking Playa Blanca in 6bed villa. Does anyone have any tips about where is best to stay on the island? There are 6 adults and 4 kids aged 0-11. Needs to be close to beach/shops. Ta

Playa Blanca is good and has a lovely long promenade that runs from one end to the other, about 7km. There are some nice family beach areas including wild natural beaches a at Papagayo.
There are loads of restaurants to choose from, including takeaways.
If you are going to hire a car you can easily go for day trips, do the shopping etc. There are good bus services too. All the supermarkets stay open until 10pm and there is even an Iceland/Waitrose (called Overseas) the other side of Marina Rubicon.
The villas at Faro Park are quite new and there are local shops and restaurants. If you want a private pool make sure you get an electrically heated one. There are just so many villas to choose from, it is hard to recommend a specific area. But look carefully where they are located if you want to avoid long walks to the bus stop or into the main village area. Villa Plus have large Villas often with table tennis tables/pool tables and heated pools. Some of them are tired though so choose carefully.
