Unrealistic budget?

Over the past few years we have either been to uk cottages or had mega holidays to the USA. The US holidays have cost around £11-12k but have included Disneyland and NewYork so pretty expensive locations .
This year we have a budget of 5k and are looking for warm and sunny , pool, beach with something interesting to look around or do close by . There are 5 of us the kids are 15,15 and 8 so we need self catering or interconnecting rooms .
As I can’t find anything I’m wondering if the budget is unrealistic ? Or we have left it too late or the Euro is making Europe more expensive than it was !
Any thoughts or suggestions I’m getting stress as I always have holiday booked by Xmas !

Assuming school hols- The problem you have is two fold- 5 of you with the age of kids usually means 2 rooms, and the age of your older kids mean they are 'adults' so you basically have 4 adults and a child at peak.
Your best bet is a villa rental and Sep flights, with someone like jet2 or easyjet, if you git flights to the med for the 5 of you for £2k tops that would leave a decent amount for a villa...

Omg 5k? I know there's only 4 of us but we usually have a fortnight in France for 2k.
Have you considered campsites and getting a mobile home?

I have looked st Euro camp and they are also silly money
I can just about get flights and a very basic villa ( not usually with access to a pool )
Have looked st easyJet flights and owners direct . I thought 5 k was going to cover the whole holiday and spends easily !!
Have looked in France Spain Italy and Croatia .
Average cost for something I’d consider decent but nit over the top is around 6-8k
And I’m very happy to self cater and haven’t considered all inclusive !
Glad it’s not only me shocked .
We can do 2 weeks in San Durango for £8.5k which is a lot but not much more than 2 weeks in Portugal ( flights were £3k with easyJet !)

We're a family of 5 and it's cheaper to fly to visit my brother in Canada for 3 weeks than a week in Majorca half board!

Pinkpeanut27 · 19/02/2018 15:55

That’s what I’m
Finding which is ridiculous!

Have you looked at jet2holidays? They do villas as well as other options.

We rented a villa/cottage with a small pool to sleep 8 in mallorca a few years ago via airbnb which was around 1200. Flights were then around 200 per person then car hire was 300. This was for 2weeks in August. Exchange rate a bit worse now but would still be well under 5k

teabag20048 · 19/02/2018 16:15

I am having the same dilemma. Looked over the weekend at a 3 bedroom villa and flights for 2 weeks in spain in summer holidays £6,000 that's without hiring a car, doing anything and food. My 13 yr old is classed as an adult now in some countries which bumps the price up.

Pinkpeanut27 · 19/02/2018 16:28

Yep checked jet2holidays still over budget . It’s the 4 adult thing and we need interconnecting rooms or a suite or villa as although the big 2 are classed as adults I don’t feel they can have their own room or share a double bed with each other or dh or I

I agree Europe is getting a joke, we did a 3 week holiday to travelling California for under £4K granted it was only 3 of us but Europe was coming out more!! We are trying Morocco this year as the villas are really reasonable, for flights, villa(3 bed) and a maid it's only cost £1500!

Pinkpeanut27 · 19/02/2018 17:26

I would jump at California for that cost it’s near 11k for us!
Not sure about Morocco as I had a much hated trip to Tunisia 15 yrs ago ! I’m
Sure there is no correlation though
