Machupichu in August

Planning a trip to Machupichu in August, 2 adults and 2 children. We are spending 3 nights in Lima and will be travelling from another South American country so not directly from the UK.

I am concerned about altitude sickness and wonder if there is a way to get to Sacred Valley avoiding Cuzco. Is there any medicine you can take before to avoid altitude sickness.

Is Cuzco worth a visit?

Children are 8 and 11

Thank you

Don't underestimate how awful altitude sickness can be. I did and it was just so deeply unpleasant I still remember it years afterwards. You need to do everything that you can to minimise the chances of it happening which means gradually going up higher and higher. tablets made no difference to the blinding headache and severe sickness that I had. this experience is the reason why we went to Belize to see the Mayan ruins instead. I can give you details of our trip if you message me.

Thank you.

Did you get the altitude sickness in Cusco? I am hoping we can avoid it or go to Cusco as last part of the trip after we have acclimatised in
Lima and Sacred Valley.

Did you travel directly from the UK?
