We’re staying Saturday night in Docklands for an event on Sunday. Will have an afternoon and evening free when we arrive. Any ideas? DC are 8 and 5.

London Museum of Docklands near Heron Quays station.

DLR to Greenwich-takes about 15 minutes and if they're lucky the children can sit at the front and "drive"

If you enjoy museums the Museum of London Docklands is quite nice.

Also you can jump on the river bus and travel up the Thames which takes in lots of nice views. Cools take that up to the Southbank which has lots of stuff happening.

If you want to go to the Docklands Museum have a look at booking tickets for the Mudlarks gallery which is the hands on space. The tickets are free but it gets busy at weekends.

If you go to Greenwich, the park has a lovely play space and just actually walking in it and feeding nuts to the squirrels is lovely too. The Maritime Museum is free to go into and has two hands on spaces which you don't have to book, one is for younger children and one for older. They also have a large floor world map- you can borrow iPads and use the map to help you answer questions with a pirate character. My ds who is 9 loves this. There's a really nice cafe in Greenwich opposite the cinema called the Green Cafe- great cakes and waffles for a treat.

Whereabouts are you staying? If you towards the eXcel centre you could go on the cable cars or get a riverboat along to the Southbank, if you're staying at Hilton Rotherhithe you can pick up the same boat from the hotel jetty. There's also Surrey Docks City Farm

Staying at the premier inn - I think it’s near eXcel centre.
