Summer holiday with in-laws & kids - no idea where to go

Hi

I'd be really grateful for any advice on where to go for a holiday this summer. DH rarely takes much time of but this year we have two weeks from August 6th. He wants to take his parents with us - both in their 70's & the kids are aged 8 &10.

I think I could only hack 7 days max with the in-laws so keen to spend sometime with them and then heading off to do our own thing.

I don't want to get stuck on a massive hotel/resort but the in-laws don't want to get a villa as they don't want to drive anywhere. I'm looking for;
sandy, safe beaches, somewhere with good swimming pools, some good excursions to do and near some nice villages where we can get something to local to eat.

Any ideas would be greatly welcome.

Thanks, Rachel.

We are renting a villa in Cagnes sur Mer. It's about 10 mins from Nice airport. Really close to the beach apparently and has its own pool. We have hired a car but it's not essential considering how close to Nice it is. There is a decent train service from there if I remember correctly.

We did a cruise to accommodate doddering PIL and bouncy small boys. Worked surprisingly well. Not my idea of a great holiday but everyone else loved it and I didn’t hate it. Did a few days trips - dh & PIL or us without PIL. Kids happy with pool and cruise stuff.

If you go for a cruise make sure it's a family friendly one. The one we went on was rubbish in many ways but there was certainly nothing suitable for kids to do or eat (all food very high in salt for some reason).

Great, thank you.

Nobody keen on the cruise idea although I can see why it would work. I think I may have to keep in mind 'you can't please all of the people, all of the time'.

Croatia anyone?
