Anyone any experience? Want somewhere not too far from Calais and coastal and this is coming up in Yelloh. It seems quiet which is what we want but don't really know what surrounding area is like or what to expect weather wise in July?

We went to the Baie de Somme area a few years back. The beach wasn't good - quite muddy because it's on an estuary. There was a steam train which went between Le Crotoy and St Valery which was quite good and we also went to a waterpark at Belle Dune. Fort-Mahon-Plage up the coast had a better beach.

If you're looking for close to Calais, Boulogne is much nicer but I don't know whether there're any Yelloh type places there.

The weather is pretty much like England.

Rosie thanks a lot for that. The reason we are choosing that region in France (rather than the south) is because the weather is closer to England Grin We don't do 'hot' or like big crowds so heard Le Crotoy was quiet-ish.

We will have the car so be able to travel around, but is that town nice? We like quaint villages rather than resort type places. Any accommodation recommendations?

We have stayed near le Crotoy when dcs were younger. It was this site here rather than the Yelloh one en.flowercampings.com/campsite-the-somme-estuary/camping-les-aubepines.
The town is nice and typically very French.
The area is quite flat and good for cycling - you can hire bikes locally.
The steam train is good.

We went to Belle Dune late August one year. The area was pretty quiet and pleasantly warm. There is a steam train around the bay and great for watching birds.

We stayed at Domaine de Drancourt which is near St Valery. St Valery was quite a pretty little town.

I worked as a campsite rep at Domaine de Drancourt many moons ago. Happy memories! It was pretty quiet for a 20 year old but lovely area.

Used to go to the north of France a lot with my Dad and brother.
Le Touquet has a lovely long sandy beach, a bit reminiscent of Camber sands. Montreuil sur Mer is inland (despite the name) and a very pretty little town.
