Nice hotels in Rome near the station?

We're stopping off in Rome for a night on our way to a wedding, and will be arriving and leaving from Termini.

Can anyone recommend a hotel near there which is nice rather than grotty, I'd be really grateful!

Are you literally just stopping there to sleep, or are you hoping to see a bit of Rome? It's really not very nice by the station so I'd stay somewhere more central if you were hoping to see a bit of the city.

Go a little out of the immediate termini area. It’s horrible. I’m a reasonably seasoned traveller and it was definitely a watch you valuables and prepare to be ripped off sore if area😂
Central Rome ( centro storico) is pretty small anyway so lots of places to stay in better areas.

We stayed two blocks away from Termini in a hotel called Hotel Morgana. It was a lovely little place, lovely rooms and great little buffet breakfast. Easy 10min walk to the roman forum and colleseum. The streets immediately touching the station were a tad rough, but ours felt safe. It may be busier in high season- this was March.

That certainly used to be the area were prostitutes are working, don't know if it still is.

We stayed in Hotel Mediterraneo just across the road from the station, it was lovely and the roof terrace has some spectacular views. We booked it on booking.com and it was cheap. We often go to Rome and stay around Termini and have stayed in some complete dives before but this was the best we found and the breakfast was really nice too.

Thanks everyone, both of those look good.

We do kind of know what we are letting ourselves in for round there, as we spent ten days in Rome already, and stayed in an air b and b in the area, which was fine. It also meant that we discovered Fassi's ice cream parlour, which is the other reason, apart from coming in and out of termini, that we need to be in the area...

We stayed in the Starhotel Metropole, more of a modern, corporate hotel than typically Roman, but it was clean and comfortable and had a lovely breakfast. While the area wasn’t exactly pretty, it felt safe, and was an easy walk to the centre

Hotel Traiano is ten minutes walk away on Via Quattro Novembre. Old style, fabulous bathroom and clean.
