How long does a passport take once money been taken

Sent application off 24.1.18
Money was taken from bank 1.2.18 (yesterday)
Got a text this morning saying passport will be with you by 23.2.18 unless more info is needed.... does this mean they have already processed it? As why would they take the money without checking everything was in order?

I got mine in December, much sooner than the deadline they set themselves. I think it was 7 days from making the online application to receiving delivery of the passport.

Akire · 02/02/2018 09:26

Mine took a week think was October time. If payment had gone through I would presume a few days and it will arrive. Do you need it uregently?

LarkDescending · 02/02/2018 09:28

Sounds like yours wasn’t online though so it may be different (& not clear whether yours is a straightforward adult renewal, as mine was).

I got daily status texts:

Photos received
Passport issued
Passport despatched
Passport will be delivered tomorrow
Passport will be delivered today

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/02/2018 09:34

No, they won't have processed it, taking money will be the first step in the process. They wont do anything until they have the funds.

I’ve just applied for DS’s first one and it was here within two weeks. First text said they had received the form and unless they needed more info, it would be sent out within the next month. Couple of days later, got another one saying it would be delivered the next day. His birth certificate was back a few days later in normal post. That was from the Glasgow passport office.

notacooldad · 02/02/2018 09:45

In the autumn I posted mine at 17.00hrs on a Thursday afternoon, I got a text on Saturday lunchtime and it was delivered on Tuesday afternoon and my old one came back in the post on Wednesday.

Doctordid · 02/02/2018 09:47

Mine came back in five days after posting

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 02/02/2018 09:55

child renewal back in 7 days a couple of weeks back.

saladdays66 · 02/02/2018 09:57

Child renewal two weeks ago - got it in under a week!

Terpsichore · 02/02/2018 10:06

Mine was done online and was very quick, probably just over a week, although they tell you it can take up to three weeks. I got regular status updates. Then at the final stage the delivery company they use messed the whole thing up by being complete dickheads (the old passport had already arrived back at that stage).

It would have been a week if not for the delivery idiots.

woodlanddreamer · 02/02/2018 10:09

On line application for renewal took a week recently. Updates at every step of the way, so you will know when it is coming. Do you need it urgently? I have to say I loved the new on line system, uploading a photo from your phone was great, and the fact that it performs checks of the photo when you submit it is an improvement. Just not having to go somewhere to get photos taken was bliss!
If it's a first passport I assume it would take longer as they have more checks to do, but yes, taking the money would be the first step.

fakebake44 · 02/02/2018 10:17

Mine was Glasgow office too. No don't need it urgently just really anxious wondering when it'll arrive, it's a child renewal

Confused as 3 people I've spoken to IRL have said they had the money taken and passport arrived a few days later... which would make sense because imagine the amount of refunds they'd have to process if they were taking the money before they'd even looked at the application? Confused fingers crossed it's not much longer

I did a child renewal last week - I filled in the form online and paid online and posted the photo (with countersignatory).

I posted it on Tuesday and the passport arrived by Friday last week. I also got daily text messages with updates.

They always seems to delivery ahead of deadline in my experience.

fakebake44 · 02/02/2018 16:20

Hopefully that's the case and it'll be delivered soon.
I'm just anxious because I initially sent it away 2 weeks ago but they phoned to say they had received my photos and bank info but his old passport and application had gone missing in the post so to send an application in again, which I did last Wednesday so 9 days ago. Phoned yesterday to make sure they'd received and she said it was all in the system so hopefully the text I got today and the fact they took the money yesterday means I'm not far off having a passport

I'm fairly sure the fees are non refundable if there is something wrong with your application. It is a processing fee, which is why they take it straight away. I'm sure it will be fine & your passport will be there soon.

fakebake44 · 03/02/2018 09:54

I think you may be right woodland as I had a letter this morning saying his old passport hasn't arrived.... wellll obviously considering you told me it was lost Hmm
20 minutes phone call this morning the woman on the phone confirmed it as an error and everything else looks in order so should be here soon Grin
