Are there any great ideas out there of things I can do/get for my 27mo dd to keep us all sane on a 5-6 hour journey to the ferry in Portsmouth and a 4 hour trip in France on the other side?? She loves books - for a limited time - and jigsaws - but difficult in car. Any thoughts from all the mumsnet experts out there? Thx lots

when travelling with my daughter I make up a little rucksack of new toys and books. I pick these up cheaply at charity shops or pound shops. Bring them out one at a time. its amazing the amount of little bits you can pick up when you start looking, I found mini-paints,jigsaws, crayons and plasticine. Good for the ferry!

I agree with Essbee ...
I have done many a long journeys with DS (cars and planes!)
Break it up ... Stop every hour and a half to two hours.
