Majorca in early May?

I’ve been to the Balearics in late May and early June before, but we are looking at going earlier in May this year, to save some money as it’s £££ cheaper.

Will the weather be ok? I like it reasonably hot but not too hot (June last year was too much for me!) and obviously no rain.

This is our last proper holiday for a while as DS is starting school this year so don’t think we will be able to go away with school holiday prices being as they are. So want to make the most of it and not have to worry about the weather.

I know there are no guarantees either way, but from experience, what are your thoughts?

It might be nice but there is a chance it will rain. Quite a big chance. Imo it rains a lot in Majorca no matter what month it is. But early and late in the year the risk is higher.

Ok thanks. May rethink I don’t want to risk rain.

We once went to Majorca around the 20th of May and the weather was decidedly iffy, some days it was warm and sunny others very cool and a few wet days. We certainly never had any moments of being glad to be in out of the sun and quite a few wishing it was warmer. We loved the hotel we stayed at but the weather wasn't the best.

We went to Ibiza on 20th May a couple of years ago and the weather was lovely, but I have since read that Majorca is cooler that the other islands.

Maybe I’ll have a rethink. Canaries is a safer bet and I’ve seen a nice hotel in playa Blanca, but I had my heart set on Majorca a bit. We went to Menorca in June last year and loved it.

I’ve been to Majorca at May half term... it was about 60:40 with decent days vs overcast days: a bit disappointing frankly.
I don’t think Majorca is the right destination for you, especially if you’re looking at the beginning of the month.

Thanks, this has all been very useful.

It’s either going to be canaries, or bite the bullet with the cost and go to Majorca in June instead.

Or is there anywhere else worth considering in May?

Looking for all inclusive, good pools including a kiddies splash pool, and near to a beach.

Couple of years ago I went to northern Spain at the beginning of May (10th ish) and it was lovely and hot, no rain at all, and that’s northern Spain, it’s possibly be warmer in the Balearics as they’re more southern

Have done it May half term a couple of times and have had bad weather both times. Even the good days weren't hot as it was very windy.

I've been to Majorca in May mid - late onwards many times and always had really good weather, high 20s early 30 s. Had one rainy day in 12. I'd avoid the first 2 weeks but otherwise would say go for it!

3girlsunder3 · 01/02/2018 01:00

PS I think its Menorca that is supposed to have the cooler weather

Eminybob · 01/02/2018 06:30

Thanks. We have decided to go in June instead to be on the safe side. Managed to find a hotel that ticks the boxes but isnt too dear. (It’s in sa coma - anyone one know what’s its like?)
