Barcelona for DHs 30th

Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay in Barcelona? Also any advice on booking things separately. I have only ever booked packages so sorting things like transfers etc. I've looked at packages and the transfers alone are ££! I would like to take him to Camp Nou as he's a big fan.

Also, I'm torn between whether to have a few days for just us, or to take our 3 young DCs with us. I have always said I couldn't go away (abroad) without them. It would obviously be lovely to get away just us, but I'd probably feel so guilty them not being there, as DS(4) likes the football too. Any suggestions of family friendly hotels would be great too. (I'm erring on the just us going though, is that really horrendous of me?)

I'm looking for mid July for 3 nights or so. Already found flights for around £170 if just we go.

Have a look at Mr and Mrs Smith, they recommend some great hotels. We stayed at the Pulitzer a few years ago and would absolutely recommend it for a grown up trip away, but I don't know what it'd be like with kids. You could try an AirB&B apartment if you are looking for something bigger and room for the family.

Thanks HLBug, I've used them before but they are a bit pricey for the sake of a few days. The hotel you mentioned has come up. I'll check that out. I have found a Novotel that's the same price whether we go alone or with DCs. I'm torn as to what to do!

Don't take the kids!
It's okay to have a couple of days away without them, don't feel guilty!
Am sure Ds loves football but the nou camp tour would be sooooo much more appreciated when he's 10 or older.

I've stayed at the W which was nice but I preferred the Arts Hotel. Very grown up and sexy.

Enjoy. Barcelona is my fave city

I can recommend hotel Indigo. The location is great and there is an outdoor pool in case you want a break form the sites.

Yes to Camp Nou - it's easy to book tour tickets on its website.
Also go to the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlo (Gaudi's house), the aquarium,, the cable car...

But be v careful on Las Ramblas. Full of pickpockets.

Thank you all so much for the advice!

bluesouper you are right. It would be more appreciated when they are older. I was hoping to book a proper holiday for August for all of us but the prices! Shock if I manage to get somewhere even in the UK I won't feel so guilty going without them.

saladdays66 yes I looked it up. The plan was to tell him closer to his birthday were going to Barcelona, then surprise him on his actual birthday out there that were going to the stadium! He'll love it.

Just waiting on the OK from GPs they're happy to have them for a few days and I'll hopefully book it tonight!

Don't worry about transfers, You can pick up a taxi outside the airport or get the train into the city. It stops at Sants, Passeig de Gracia and Clot if any of those are near where you are staying?

We usually stay at the Ibis just up the road from Sagrada Familia. There are some great bars and restaurants nearby.

Hotel K Picasso.

Also check our Aire De Barcelona spa

Thank you all for your suggestions! I looked into them all, however I've managed to book the Novotel, which looks nice enough, and got three days there for £370 including flights!

Now to keep it in until July! I've also just booked it for the two of us, this is completely unknown territory. The DCs are literally with us 24/7/365 so it will be a welcome break. DH is going to be absolutely made up when I tell him - how and when I don't know?!
