Weekend reunion - Midlands

We're looking to meet up half way with friends who live in the south west, ideally somewhere not further south than Stratford upon Avon and no further north than Derby.

There will be two couples, one child age four and one teenager. We'd like self catering if possible. We're prepared to spend a little bit extra if it's nice (within reason, obv) and we want somewhere for two nights at a weekend.

Any ideas???? I don't know where to start.

Would the Peak District be completely out of the question?

Have you had a look at Rutland Water, some nice self catering accommodation around there and plenty of activities to do during the day. Or are you thinking more of a city break?

Try the Landmark Trust for historical, quirky and well-appointed self catering.
