Lake beach vs seaside!

I’ve been looking at Gites near lake beaches in the Charente region of France. Has anyone got any opinions on a lake beach holiday? Would we miss the sea??

I always thought that a seaside beach was essential for a summer holiday but then German DH presided me otherwise with a lakeside holiday in Bavaria. Absolutely loved the lack of sand ( although there is often a bit) and feeling clean rather than salty when you come out of the water. We went to the French Alps last summer and the lake swimming was brilliant

I've been to the Italian lakes and didn't miss the sea at all.

The french are brilliant for lakeside beaches and riverside beaches. We usually stay in that area and dont miss the sea at all.

Last year we picked a couple of places in France for our holiday - one on a lake, one near a river. Didn't miss the sea - in fact much preferred both places as they were more rural and less busy than the coast.

Would any of you be willing to be more specific about where you stayed near to the lake beach or river beaches in France?

Would you miss the sea breeze I wonder? Would you get a breeze on a lake?

Ive never missed the sea at all when on a lake holiday- the water feels so clean and crisp, and you come out feeling so fresh! Great with kids too as you can be relaxed about letting them splash away without being worried about them getting dragged out to sea.

Also, no sharks in a lake? Grin
