Cape Verde, can kids swim in the sea?

It looks beautiful but have read the sea can be really dangerous?

Are certain areas ok to swim in?

When I went nobody could swim in the sea. We went in December a few years ago to Boa Vista. Not sure if all areas/islands are the same and it'll be different at different times of year I would have thought.

Ditto - when I went the red flags were up the whole time because of the wind.

I went to the Melia Llana near Santa Maria for Christmas. There were a load of hotels along there. Most of the coast was way too rough to swim in but there is a harbour/enclosed pier bit where the Bikini Beach club is and that was grand. Wavy but grand.
