Has anyone had one done, who later just wish they'd moved?! We're running the numbers and the costs are looking similiar (presuming we can find a house, and presuming rates don't go up too much again!!!)

Had one 18 months ago. Absolutely fab and no regrets whatsoever. Cheaper than moving, I think, although I guess that depends on your circumstances, location and size of property.

did you end up with a reasonably large one? am worried about pokiness and the fact that the ceilings will be much lower than the rest of the house.

lots of old threads about this, do a search - but you're probably better off looking under 'good housekeeping' than 'travel'!

we had one 3 years ago (victorian semi) and don't regret it, moving to bigger house would have been much more expensive. Ceiling are bit lower, but it's a bedroom so not much time really, spent in there. You can do things live have a lower bed, or low level storage so the lack of height isn't emphasized - and you don't necessarily need 1st floor ceilings lowered to increase height in loft

QV had one, you need to talk to her.

I love mine, its such an interesting room. It has velux, nor dormer windows, so has sloping ceilings, but as its DD's bedroom it doesn't matter. It was expensive, but well worth it. If you are happy in your present house then have it. if you think you mightg prefer to move but don't really want the hassle then TBH I'd move as it IS a lot of upheaval, only worth it if you're really happy with the house
