Snorkelling in August

We want a summer holiday somewhere where there is great snorkelling from the beach. We were thinking about East coast Australia, but it seems you can only snorkel from the beach if you can afford to stay on one of the Great Barrier Reef islands (which unfortunately we cant). The other problem I have is that I'm not very good in extreme heat, so we need somewhere where it wont be scorching hot! Anyone got any suggestions ?

The best snorkelling we have encountered has been in Maldives and Marsa Alam, Egypt but it will be rainy season in Maldives and scorching in Egypt. Maldives was better for off beach snorkelling but you might want to check water visibility in rainy season.

We did a day trip to Low Isles from Port Douglas and you snorkel off the beach there. Not sure of weather conditions though in August.

I've also experienced my best off beach snorkelling in the Maldives and Egypt, like a previous poster.

The best snorkelling from a beach on Oz is ningaloo bay in western australia

Tropical fish equals scorching hot!!! We had a boat hire in the British Virgin Islands so anchored where the fish are! There is good snorkling at Trunk Bay on St John in the USVI. Most of the Virgin Islands have good snorkling from beaches.

Andromeda is right , Ningaloo Reef in WA has the best snorkelling off the beach in Australia and in August it's winter so mid-20s
We snorkelled with a giant manta ray about 30 metres off the beach

But it's a bloody long way from anywhere, especially an International airport but very much worth it you have time.

If you are thinking of Eastern Australia there are lots of surprisingly good snorkelling spots off city beaches, they just aren't on the scale of the GBR or Ningaloo.

For instance my local beach is Shelley Beach in Manly , Sydney which is a marine reserve with lots of fish , rays, harmless sharks, turtles etc
there are heaps of videos like this on youtube that show what you can expect

and as it's August it's whale migration season so you might get lucky

How about Mauritius?
It’s winter but still around 24 degrees every day.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
We have actually been to Ningaloo several years ago, but I didn't find the snorkelling as amazing as what we did from Green Island. Although to be fair Green Island was my first experience , so maybe that's why I remember it so well.
