I’m not a lot of help to you on car hire (airport probably) but for things to do
W5 is a great interactive kids Science museum not far from Titanic
Ulster Museum is a good visit
Carrickfergus Castle is a short drive away (about 30 mins)
You can also visit HMS Caroline an old battleship which might appeal if he loves Titanic- in the same Titanic quarter
Crumlin Road Jail is a great visit probably more for you and your older DC

Places to stay- everywhere from the high end Merchant and it’s cheaper brother the Bullit to the usual Travelodge, Premier Inn etc a decent mid range is Jury’s- all in the city centre

Also if the weather is nice when there you could walk through the Botanic Gardens which the Ulster Miseum is in or visit the Stormont estate- lovely walks and a tour of Parliament buildings
