Best way to get to Ancona?

We are visiting friends there, and the only direct flights are from Stansted, which is the other side of the country from us. We'll need to hire a car, so are there any other airports that we could think about using, or do we go to Rome and get the train up? Any advice much appreciated.

You're going across country from Rome so really, unless it's a massive haul, then a direct Ryanair from Stansted might still be best. Alitalia will probably do a 2 hop flight, changing in Milan, but that will also probably involve LHR or at best London City.

It is a massive haul, but you're probably right even so. The Ancona flight is also at stupid o'clock in the morning, so we'd have to overnight at Stansted, but even then it's going to end up cheaper. Thank you.
