Hi
Looking at going to landal Het Vennonbos at the end of June for a week with husband, 4 year old and 2 year old

Should we book the meal package in advance, are the restaurants ok or is it best to self-cater/eat off site

Anyone have any other tips?

Alternatively any other park suggestions about an hours drive from Rotterdam for this age group

Thanks in advance

We went to Landal Het Vennenbos with DD when she was 3, three years - we had a really lovely time. We didn't book a meal package - the restaurants are okay, but personally I wouldn't have wanted to eat in them for the whole stay. We did a mix of self-catering, eating in the restaurants on-site and eating in restaurants in a nearby villages (which I preferred to the on-site restaurants - probably more for the peaceful environment - on-site is quite busy, but we went at Easter to might be quieter out of school hols in June). Unfortunately, I can't remember the names of local restaurants.

We've also stayed at Der Kempervannen (Center Parcs) which is in that area. Pretty similar - we probably slightly preferred Het Vennenbos but that might simply be because there red squirrels at Het Vennonbos, which are cute!

Cycling off-site around both sites was so easy with children - flat, and with lots of excellent cycle paths - if you want childseats/trailers from the site, go as early as you can to get them.

That’s great thanks for the feedback, I’ve been debating between landal or CP and really torn

It’s our first holiday abroad so trying to find somewhere that will keep the kids entertained but not too structured or expensive

It’s the last time we’ll be able to do outside of school holidays so feel like we should take advantage whilst we can

I'm sure I read on a MN thread a few years ago that Het Vennenbos used to be a CP - but was bought by Landal. The 'look' of the accommodation buildings on both sites looks very much the same, so it wouldn't surprise me if that was true.

Der Kempervannen is probably has a bit more for older children - skiing, laser shooting so you might want to save it for when your children are a little bit older. Although DD (who was 4 when we went) did love the rabbit petting session!

We went to het vennenbos last May with our 2 dc's age 4 & 6. We loved it! The pool is fabulous - really warm and clean, with lots of slides for all ages.

The accommodation is basic though with rubbish WiFi and not many English tv channels. It didn't matter to us as we found lots else to do.

The fantastic Efteling is only around 45 mins away. We generally self catered and the little on site shop was pretty good. Kids loved the ducks and peacocks wondering around and it was fun hiring bikes.

All in all an easy holiday and pretty cheap too.
