Summer holiday in Sweden

Has anyone got any recommendations for Sweden?

We are thinking of a holiday there this summer - spending a few days in Stockholm and then a week somewhere out in the countryside, so somewhere preferably not hours and hours drive from Stockholm.

Somewhere rural, with swimming and forests, maybe other stuff that children might enjoy (kids are 8 & 13). Looking at cottage websites just now but am bamboozled by all the choices.

Do you want beaches or lakes?

Would be happy with either, as long as it's rural.

Maybe look for a place on the archipelago
