Anyone been to Yosemite? Should I worry about altitude with a one year old?

We are taking ds to Yosemite in May and I suddenly worried if he will be okay at that altitude. We are staying in the valley, which is about 4000 feet. Has anyone taken a baby that high? Was it okay?

I am rubbish about knowing how high place are but we took ds1 skiing in France when he was 9 months and he was fine. Have been to Yosemite and it didn't feel any higher than a French ski resort but perhaps it is. I know that babies struggle with the change in pressure on a plane but I don't know that constant high altitude is a problem. Basically don't know much so will shut up!

Hi,
We are going in Aug with our trio, it will be hot! Was there in 91 and 93 and saw lots of babies, they all seemd ok. Yes it is high, but staying on the valley floor should not cause you any problems, where are you staying? We have a condo at Yosemite Four Seasons. Its an AWESOME place as they say!

Is Virgin food that bad?

SittingBull - I think altitude is not a problem if you live there as you are acclimatised. its more of a danger to lesser mortals who normally live lower down and need time to adapt to the altitude.

Aloha · 26/04/2007 13:31

Altitude? I've been to Yosemite and nobody told me anything about altitude. Felt totally normal! Saw lots and lots of families there. It will be fine!

Oranges, please report when you come back - we're hoping to do a similar trip similar time next year, with similarly aged child! Any tips will be most appreciated. Have a super time.

oranges · 26/04/2007 16:27

Thank you! Am really excited about it.

Pretty Candles - book accomodation early - it all fills up very quickly.

I have! Load of times!

But I was a dirtbag climber then so camped out. We actually got reservations for Camp 4 - had to book WAY in advance, though.

It rocked.

I lived in Boulder at the time, which was at nearly 6,000 feet, so it wasn't bad.

Have fun!!!

oranges · 26/04/2007 16:33

The people's republic of Boulder?

We left accommodation way too late, so have two nights at Yosemite Lodge, and one at Curry Village cabin, because that's all that was available.
